Bouznika: Libyan Dialogue results in understandings on sovereign positions’ criteria

The Libyan dialogue in the Moroccan city of Bouznika between the delegations of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State resulted in comprehensive understandings about the criteria and mechanisms for selecting the occupants of the sovereign positions stipulated in Article 15 of the political agreement signed in Skhirat.

The member of the House of Representatives, Idris Omran, read the final statement of the dialogue, Tuesday evening, in which he stated that the political process in Libya is still waiting for real support from the international community, and that what has been reached is a balance that can be built upon to get out of the crisis and end the division.

The statement emphasized that the two delegations will continue their meetings in Morocco to coordinate the work of the political, oversight and executive institutions to ensure the end of the transitional phase, and that the report of the consensus reached in Bouznika will be presented to the House of Representatives and the High Council of State.

Meanwhile, the member of the High Council of State, Fawzi Al-Oqab, said that the members of the House of Representatives showed their sincere desire to advance the national interest regarding Article 15 of the political agreement, stressing that a consensus had been reached on this article, and that the consensus would be discussed for a decision by<span;> the two chambers.

Al-Oqab pointed out that the discussions took place about criteria and mechanisms for selecting the occupants of the sovereign positions that allow competition to take over the positions, provided that the occupants have the needed competence and professionalism to be employed.

He explained that the UN mission supported this path, and thet there are countries that emphasized its importance, hoping that the results of the “Bouznika track” would receive international support.

Dialogue without Outside Interference

Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said that the two parties to the Libyan dialogue had reached understandings to distribute the sovereign positions, adding that the second round of the Libyan dialogue ended with important consensus, stressing that the “Libyan-Libyan” dialogue was successful.

Bourita stated that the Libyan dialogue was free from external interference, and that the Libyans are able to solve their problems without any external interference.
