EU eager to see positive outcome for Libyan economic reform dialogue

The Head of the European Union mission to Libya, Ambassador Jose Antonio Sabadell, confirmed that they are looking forward to the round of talks that will start in Geneva, with the participation of experts from all parts of Libya in partnership with the UN mission with the aim of reaching fair economic arrangements to end the economic crisis in the country.

Sabadell stressed the urgent need for political reforms, and the fight against corruption as essential to the recovery of the economy.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya announced its intention to hold a technical meeting to agree on important reforms to the Libyan economy, including the Acting Head of Mission, Stephanie Williams, and the co-chair of the economic working group emanating from the Berlin process, including “Egypt, the United States and the European Union.”

The mission set the date of the meeting between December 14 and 15, provided that it includes representatives of the main Libyan financial institutions, at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva with the goal of reaching agreement on very important general economic policy reforms, according to the UNSMIL.
