Presidential Council proposes solutions to Libyan Archives Center’s financial issues

The Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, directed the Ministry of Finance to set up an appropriate mechanism whereby the value of the rents owed by the Libyan Center for Archives and Historical Studies will be paid for the benefit of the General Authority for Endowments and Islamic Affairs in exchange for the center’s benefit from the property leased from the Authority.

The Director of the Office of the Head of the Presidential Council, Youssef Al-Mabrouk, indicated in a letter addressed to the Director of the Ministry of Finance Affairs Office, that the decision came due to the limited financial allocations for the center, and because of the amendment of the rental value of the aforementioned property from 40.000 dinars per month to 150.000 dinars per month, and thus, the center was unable to fulfill its obligations towards the Authority.

Al-Mabrouk stated that Al-Sarraj’s directives to the Ministry of Finance include setting up a mechanism to pay the debts of all public entities in exchange for their use of real estate owned by the Authority or the Libyan state.

Meanwhile, Al-Mabrouk informed the Head of the General Authority for Endowments of Al-Sarraj’s decision urging for taking no action towards the center until the Ministry of Finance finishes setting up the appropriate mechanism for debt repayment.

On Friday evening, the Ministry of Interior in the Government of National Accord announced the assignment of patrols from the Office of Information and Security Follow-up to secure and protect the headquarters of the Center for Archives and Historical Studies located in Abu Mashmasha district in Tripoli.

The ministry said in a statement that securing the headquarters came in coordination with the head of the investigations department at the Office of the Attorney General, and based on source information that a group would attack the headquarters.

The Ministry stated that the headquarters will be secured and protected, and no group or party will be allowed to enter it until instructions are issued by the Attorney General’s Office.
