GNA’s Defense Ministry says it isn’t aware of “Bashagha’s security operation”

The Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Accord, the commander of the Western Military Region, and the Commander of the Tripoli Military Region, confirmed that they were not aware of the security operation “snake hunt”, which was announced recently by the Minister of Interior, Fathi Bashagha.

Bashagha had recently revealed a “major attack” coming by the GNA forces to eliminate militants and people smugglers in the western region, without giving any details about the operation.

The Ministry of Defense called on all parties with security competences to coordinate in advance with them and all their military and security institutions to ensure security results are obtained, and to preserve the sovereignty of the homeland and its institutions.

It stressed that its work is subject to a specific and accurate system based on prior planning for any operation it carries out, with the aim of uniting the efforts of security and military institutions in combating terrorism and extremism, as well as human trafficking and organized crime.

The operation, announced by the Minister of the Interior, is receiving Turkish support, while Bashagha made a call to the United States to support the operation targeting extremists, who regained their foothold in the western region, during the National Army’s attempt to control Tripoli, as he described it.
