Libyan Amazigh celebrate New Year (2971)

These days, the Amazigh of Libya commemorate the occasion of the beginning of the Amazigh year 2971, and these celebrations bear many meanings that the Amazigh people have been clinging to, throughout their history, and include pride in the land and its bounties, and the keenness to coexist with the rest of the cultures and races.

Amazigh cities in several regions in Libya, which take this day as an official holiday in them, are witnessing celebrations in their atmosphere of joy mixed with the ancient Amazigh customs and traditions inherited from ancient times. The youngsters make a doll frame, through which they roam the alleys, streets and neighborhoods, chanting an Amazigh folk song, out of optimism about the heavy rain.

Amazigh cities revive a number of cultural activities related to their heritage. These include preparing traditional dishes, and holding a range of entertainment activities and artistic parties, as well as other aspects of celebration.

According to the monitoring of historians, the collective psychological state during the celebration of “January”, proves the extent to which the Amazighs receptive to the voluntary sharing of good deeds with other peoples.

The new Amazigh year is considered an opportunity to remind the value of tolerance between peoples, especially “Arab and Amazigh,” and to express common characteristics among cultures.
