Guterres specifies necessary steps for permanent ceasefire in Libya

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, identified a group of steps, which he described as “necessary”; in order to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement in Libya, and the role that the UN mission could play in the future.

In his report to the members of the Security Council on Libyan developments, Guterres considered that a permanent ceasefire in Libya needs to be accepted by all parties and the Libyans, adding that all member states must fully comply with the arms embargo and all other imposed decisions from the Security Council.

In his report, Guterres stressed the need to create adequate security and operational conditions to deploy a new, comprehensive ceasefire monitoring mechanism and security arrangements throughout Libya.
