US welcomes agreement on selecting mechanism of new Libyan executive authority

The United States (US) welcomed the progress made by the Advisory Committee of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum towards selecting a new interim executive authority.

The Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephanie Williams, announced on Saturday, that the Advisory Committee had reached an agreement on the mechanism for selecting the executive authority, and that the mechanism would be voted on next Monday.

The US embassy in Libya said in a statement that the advisory committee’s work “reflects the clear demands of the Libyan people that it is time to move beyond the conflict and corruption that the status quo has facilitated.”

The embassy called on all parties to “work urgently and in good faith through the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum to form a new unified government, whose mission will be to hold national elections on December 24 of this year, provide public services, and transparently manage and distribute Libya’s wealth for the benefit of all citizens.”

The embassy indicated that “the Libyan people and the international community must use all available tools to prevent any attempts to obstruct this political transition.”

it also commended the Acting Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Stephanie Williams, for her exceptional leadership and commitment to helping Libya achieve a more secure and prosperous future.
