Bin Tahia unveils to 218News possible violations of voters’ registration

Chairman of the Central Committee for Municipal Council Elections, Salem bin Tahia, in exclusive statements to “218News” on Tuesday, said that the system of voters that is being implemented has been established since 2013, and it is directly connected with the national number system and the Civil Status Department system, while the system in the Eastern Region is completely separate from the national number system as well as the voter register system in which the Central Committee operates, which makes the electoral process vulnerable to penetration.

BIn Tahia expressed on Al-Bilad program on “218News” his dissatisfaction with this chapter with “flimsy political arguments,” stressing that the work of the Central Committee for Municipal Council Elections is purely technical, based on serving all Libyans, stressing the need for disallowing separation and division of Libyans from the east and west.

Bin Tahia indicated that these measures caused the eastern region not to enable the municipal elections throughout 2018, 2019 and 2020, which could have gone smoothly to stabilize the security situation in the eastern region.

“This has produced the current scene represented by the existence of management councils in most of the municipalities of the Eastern Region.” He added.
