Libya’s new executive authority: Menfi is Head of Presidency Council, Debeibah is Prime Minister

The first list of the four lists put for elections at the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum won the vote on the Presidency Council and the new government.

The first winning list includes Mohammed Menfi as Chairman of the Presidential Council, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah as Prime Minister, and Mossa Al-Koni and Abdullah Al-Lafi as members of the Presidency Council with 39 votes.

The second list, which includes HoR Speaker Aqila Saleh, Abdul Majeed Saif Al-Nasr and Usama Juwaili as well as Fathi Bashagha, received 34 votes.

The UN Acting Envoy to Libya, Stephanie Williams, called on the winning list to form the new government to be submitted for approval in the House of Representatives.

Stephanie Williams also called for the translation of national unity based on competence and that it should represent all Libyans, including youth, women and cultural components.

“The first consolidated budget since 2014 has been agreed and is in the process of being released by the current Presidency Council.” She explained.

Williams indicated, in her speech after the announcement of the winning list, if confidence is not granted to the new government within 21 days, the decision will return to the political dialogue forum.

The UN Acting Envoy also called on the new government to provide its full support to the High Electoral Commission, and to abide by the ceasefire commitment in support of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission.

Meanwhile, Fathi Bashagha congratulated “the winning list that embodied democracy in its clearest form, wishing the new executive authority success.”
