Griffith reveals Biden’s priorities in Libya

A spokeswoman for the US State Department, Geraldine Griffith, confirmed that the Biden administration gives priority to finding a comprehensive, negotiated political solution in Libya.

In an interview with the Egyptian newspaper Akhbar Al-Youm, Griffith added that the Biden administration welcomes the agreement reached by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum regarding a unified interim Libyan executive authority charged with leading the country to the national elections set for December of this year.

The spokeswoman called on all the current Libyan authorities and actors to ensure a smooth and constructive handover of all competencies and duties to the new unified executive authority because the goal of the United States is for Libya to enjoy sovereignty, independence and stability, and it will work to coordinate international efforts to support this goal.

On the Turkish role in Libya, Griffith said that Ankara is an ally of the United States in “NATO” and has common interests with it in combating terrorism.

She added: “We may differ in opinions on some issues, but we will work with them on common priorities.”

The spokeswoman for the US State Department stressed that the Egyptian role is important and pivotal in the Middle East, noting that Egypt is an important partner of the United States of America, and it will have a greater role in preserving the stability of the region.
