Libya buys 2.8 million Covid-19 vaccine doses

The Deputy Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee against the Coronavirus Pandemic, affiliated to the Government of National Accord, Suleiman Abusriwil, confirmed that the Libyan state had contracted to provide 2.8 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to vaccinate 1.4 citizens.

He noted that the date of providing the vaccine will be at the end of the first quarter of this year, indicating that the target group for vaccination in Libya is the group most vulnerable to infection with the virus, and they are people over the age of 60 years, who suffer from chronic diseases, in addition to paramedics, who represent a fifth of the Libyan population.

The vice-president of the Scientific Committee expected a relative stability of the epidemiological situation in Libya in the coming weeks; assuring Libyans that the relevant authorities have agreed with the “government, the audit bureau and the central bank” to provide the funds required to get the vaccine.
