Source to 218News: Libyan national arrested on Italy-Austria border

An exclusive source for 218 revealed that a Libyan citizen had been arrested in possession of forged identity documents in Europe.

The source explained that the arrest was during the daily surveillance operations on the Italian-Austrian border.

The source added that a patrol from Brenner Police Station, about 3 kilometers from the city, spotted three men walking, in an atmosphere of 9 degrees below zero, on the side of the state road heading south.

The source indicated to 218News that the initial examination allowed the patrol to know that they were citizens of Libyan origin without documents and had entered Italy illegally shortly before being tracked.

According to the source, a more comprehensive examination, which was conducted in the police offices, resulted in the discovery of a Belgian ID card, which was found to be completely false, and hidden inside the shoes of one of the three men.

It also added to 218 that the employees began arresting the 23-year-old person in possession of the forged document, due to the crime referred to in Article 479 bis of the Italian Criminal Code, “possession of forged identity documents.”

“The other two Libyan citizens were handed over to the Austrian police to be returned at the border for subsequent official procedures. After the official procedures, the detainee was linked to Bolzano Prison, at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.” The source indicated.
