UN condemns kidnap of Widad Al-Shraiqi

On Saturday, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya expressed its grave concern for the safety of the young Libyan woman, Widad Ismail Al-Shraiqi, who was arbitrarily detained in front of the Zawiya court, west of Tripoli, on January 31, by an armed group, and her family has not been able to contact her since 2 February, it was reported.

In a statement, the mission called for her immediate and unconditional release, noting that this incident “blatantly undermines the rule of law and human rights in Libya.”

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya also called for a full investigation by the Prosecutor General and for all perpetrators to be referred to justice.
