Malta responds after Dbeibah’s “Libyan passport respect” statement

The Maltese Foreign Minister, Evarist Bartolo, held talks with the new Libyan Prime Minister, Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah, after the statements Dbeibah made regarding his refusal to meet him, until the Maltese authorities show respect for holders of the Libyan passport.

According to the “Times of Malta” newspaper, Malta’s foreign minister confirmed that “there is no problem” between the two countries, which plan to work together in several important areas that serve common interests.

In a statement issued on Monday, Malta’s foreign minister said that he had a phone call, on Sunday evening, with the UN envoy to Libya, Jan Kubis, during which they talked about the role of Parliament to hold the elections in December.

The two sides called on the Libyan MPs to meet in a parliamentary session, and in the spirit of national unity; to give confidence to the government that will be appointed to lead Libya to the polls at the end of this year.
