Kubis: HoR session showed Libyans’ determination to end disagreements

The Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to Libya and the Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Jan Kubis, welcomed the Government of National Unity’s swearing in at the House of Representatives during its session in Tobruk.

Kubis congratulated the Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, his government, as well as the new Presidential Council, urging them to speed up addressing the many challenges facing Libyan people, improving living conditions and basic services, and preparing the country to hold general national elections on December 24, 2021.

The UN envoy to Libya praised the House of Representatives, its leadership and its members who united once again and showed a high sense of constitutional responsibility for what is in the interest of their people and their country.

Kubis also commended the outgoing Head of the Presidential Council, Fayez Al-Sarraj, for his keenness to ensure a smooth and speedy transition of power.

The UN envoy to Libya added that the legal swearing-in session embodied the keenness of Libyans and their determination to overcome their differences and work for a better future for all and to walk together towards unity, national reconciliation, transitional justice, equality, empowerment of women and youth, and towards building a unified, independent, democratic and sovereign state, governed by the rule of law, and respect for human rights.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya and its international partners expressed their full readiness to continue providing all necessary support to the Libyan people and the Libyan institutions.
