Al-Bilad program reviews “assassinations” in Benghazi and Tripoli

On Tuesday, “Al-Bilad” program discussed the armed attack on the house of intelligence officer Saleh Al-Marimi in Tobruk and the reality of the security situation in Libya, in addition to what the Government of National Unity announced about a “Ramadan gift” to needy families, as well as the political dimensions file behind a wave of assassinations in Tripoli and Benghazi, in addition to the Libyan and American relations file.

The writer and political researcher Mohammad  El-Jarih indicated, during his participation in the episode of the “Al-Bilad” program, on Tuesday on 218News, that the ideological orientation of democrats has always been known, which is the attempt to push for the principles of democracy, the rule of law and human rights.

El-Jarih explained, “The tweet of the American ambassador to Libya about human rights and enforced disappearance is a message to all the regimes in the region, for example, there was a clear message to the Saudi regime, which is considered one of the biggest allies of the United States, to punish a group of Saudi officials who have been accused of Khashoggi’s killing.”

The political researcher believed that the American ambassador in Libya sent a clear message to the Libyan parties in the east, west and south of the country, especially in light of the existing killings, kidnappings and urging that these practices should stop, otherwise the American embassy with the support of the American Democratic Administration will hold accountable all those who carried out these practices.

“Therefore, it is a clear message from the Biden administration to take strong measures for everyone who is proven to be involved in any practices that violate human rights.” He said.

A wave of assassinations

El-Jarih believed that the assassinations that occurred at the level of Libya or the security violations, if you will, beginning in Benghazi and now in the western region, were caused by the political change that took place by naming the National Unity Government by the Dialogue Forum and then granting confidence to the government by the House of Representatives. He added that this important political change has many changes at the security, political and economic levels.

El-Jarih added, “All these security moves that have taken place in the country are an attempt by the main parties in the security scene that are in a state of repositioning in preparation for this new phase.”

The political researcher continued: “Consolidating institutions and producing a government is an important thing, and the most important thing is the ability of this government to govern and provide the minimum number of services to people, especially with regard to the issue of security and other important files .. It is noticed that the new executive authority has not commented on many incidents of security violations, and this constitutes a clear and explicit challenge to the authority of this government and its ability to control the country.

El-Jarih stressed, in his speech, “If we do not learn lessons from past years, by trying to contain the security situation and to find a specific mechanism, even if it is temporary, to deal with this fragile situation and try to overlook many important issues in the Libyan crisis, all of this and may affect every action the government is trying to implement in various fields, and let us assume the electricity problem, if it does not provide at least a minimum level of security in the country, then everything that the government will do will be useless and will not achieve results.”

Stability and chaos

Regarding the question: Will there be a security escalation or stability? El-Jarih answered: “This depends on the government’s ability to take the initiative and try to address the causes of this insecurity or escalation. The existence of this new political scene has created victorious parties and losers.”

The political researcher added that the government’s role is now to contain everyone and to put a hand on the whereabouts of any future conflict, and the signs of these conflicts began to appear in the form of assassinations, security chaos and settling scores between armed and other political parties. Thus, it is assumed that the government presented its vision for the next stage of the forum for political dialogue, and now the implementation of this vision has begun on the ground.

The role of the UN mission

El-Jarih explained that the new UN envoy, like the new government, needs more time to put his fingers on the sites of the conflict and the current crisis.

“The other problem facing Jan Kubis is his need to deal with political complications that he was not a party to and he has to implement things regarding this political process that he may not be convinced of. There are indications that he is not convinced of what was imposed by the previous envoy.” He added.

The political researcher indicated: “So far, we have not seen a clear constitutional rule, and we have not yet seen an election law. Perhaps the US policy at the present time is with support for elections at the present time, by virtue of it being a national option, and it is the only way to renew democratic legitimacy in Libya, but American support cannot be relied upon as a solution without the pressure of the Libyan street.”
