Russian Foreign Ministry: It’s premature to lift arms embargo on Libya

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that it is early to raise the issue of lifting the arms embargo on Libya before the presidential elections.

The Director of the International Organizations Department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Peter Ilychev, explained, during his interview with reporters, that it is premature to talk about the possibility of lifting or reducing the arms embargo imposed by the United Nations on Libya before holding general elections there.

Ilychiv added, “The national unity government has just been formed, and it has not actually started work. Let us wait for the elections, if they are held on the 24th of December, then we will judge how the situation will develop, because it is too early to talk about the country’s unity, according to what was reported by the Russian news agency, Sputnik.
