LPDF’s Legal Committee agrees to postpone constitutional referendum till after elections

A member of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, Zahra Langi, announced that the legal committee emanating from the dialogue has completed finalizing the constitutional basis necessary for elections to be held next December.

Zahra Langi indicated that what has been agreed upon and accomplished is a proposal to amend the Constitutional Declaration based on postponing the referendum until the legislative authority is elected, and a constitutional basis regulating the relationship between the legislative and executive authorities, “the president and the prime minister.”

Langi confirmed that the proposal will be presented to the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum at its next session, to which the UN envoy will be invited next week, noting that the committee has two months to complete the necessary legislation for the elections, and the House of Representatives must fulfill its national duty to approve the constitutional rule and the necessary legislation.
