New shipment of AstraZeneca vaccine arrives in Libya

The spokesman for the Government of National Unity, Mohammed Hammouda, announced on Wednesday the arrival of a shipment of AstraZeneca vaccine to combat Coronavirus through Mitiga International Airport.

Hammouda said, in a press conference, that the vaccination campaign will target the elderly, people suffering from chronic diseases, medical staff and volunteers, adding that the second dose of the vaccine will not be given until 70% of the aforementioned groups, amounting to 500.000 people, are vaccinated.

Hammouda indicated that, as of next Sunday, Hajis (pilgrims) will be vaccinated on an exceptional basis, in line with the conditions for performing Hajj in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Hammouda confirmed that Libya will bring “very soon” large quantities of the “Johnson and Johnson” vaccine, and upon its arrival, the challenge of providing vaccines in all regions will end.
