EU: Libya’s security and stability are threatened

The European Commissioner for Neighboring Countries, Olivér Várhelyi, considered that security and stability in Libya are threatened by illegal immigration, expressing his happiness to visit Libya and meet with the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Interior.

Olivér Várhelyi, who participated in the joint press conference held Friday with Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush and the Italian and Maltese foreign ministers, said that the formation of the national unity government is a unique opportunity to rebuild a safe and stable Libya and to rebuild its sovereignty and unity.

He also stressed that the European Union Commission is strongly committed to supporting the Libyan people and Libyan institutions, noting that the opening of the European mission headquarters in Tripoli early this month and its visit are only an indication of the European Union’s involvement in cooperation with the Libyan authorities.
