Washington: Norland to meet Haftar in Cairo to boost support for Libya’s elections

The US Embassy in Libya confirmed in a tweet on its official Twitter account the arrival of Special Envoy Richard Norland to Cairo for a two-day visit to meet Egyptian officials in addition to Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

The visit comes, according to the embassy, ​​as part of the US efforts to support the Libyan parliamentary and presidential elections next December and the difficult settlements necessary to establish the constitutional basis and legal framework required for holding elections.

The embassy affirmed its support for the right of the Libyan people to choose their leaders through an open democratic process, calling on what it described as key figures to use their influence at this crucial stage to do what is best for all Libyans.
