US efforts to urge Turkey to support Libyan elections

The US Embassy in Libya announced that the US Special Envoy for Libya Richard Norland will visit Ankara on August 12 and 13.

The embassy added on its official account on Twitter that the visit is aimed to hold fruitful consultations with senior Turkish officials in support of US efforts to support the Libyan parliamentary and presidential elections in December and focus on the urgent need to lay the constitutional basis and legal framework necessary for the elections scheduled for December 24.

Norland had earlier held talks in Cairo with Egyptian officials, in addition to a meeting he had with Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar to emphasize the right of the Libyan people to choose their leaders through an open democratic process free from external pressures, according to a statement by the US embassy.
