High Council of State criticizes 5+5 JMC call for freezing agreements, MoUs

The High Council of State said in a statement that the 5 + 5 Joint Military Commission should distance itself from talking about political affairs or international agreements preserved in accordance with the road map emanating from the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, which gave birth to the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity.

The High Council of State stressed that the security and border agreements concluded by the Government of National Accord, according to its statement, were an expression of the will of the Libyan state from the legislative authority, adding that it is immune from being compromised according to the outcomes of the political dialogue, even in the presence of an elected executive and legislative authority.

At the conclusion of its statement, the High Council of State stressed the need for the 5 + 5 Joint Military Commission to abide by the terms of reference that were assigned to it, so that it would not be considered a political party, leaving its direct responsibility and its national duty.

The 5+5 Joint Military Commission had asked in its last meeting, which was held in Sirte, the presidency of the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity, to freeze military agreements and memoranda of understanding for any country, according to what was stated in the terms of the ceasefire signed in Geneva with the necessity of appointing a defense minister.
