US fears Benghazi scenario in Afghanistan

Senator Joni Ernst said she fears the situation at Afghanistan’s Kabul airport could turn even bloodier as chaos erupts as people look to flee the country now under Taliban control.

The Republican senator expressed her fear of a new version of Benghazi, referring to the 2012 attacks on the US Consulate in Benghazi, which resulted in the killing of US Ambassador to Libya Christopher Stevens, Embassy Administrator Sean Smith, and ten Libyan policemen.

The attack greatly affected the results of the 2016 US election, as it was used as a card against presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who served as Secretary of State at the time of the attack on the consulate.

It is noteworthy that the evacuation of employees of most Western embassies continues after the Taliban took control of the capital, Kabul, and the fall of the ruling regime in Afghanistan.
