Borrell to visit Libya, Tunisia and Iraq next September

The Italian News Agency Nova reported that the High Representative of the European Union and Security Policy Josep Borrell is going to visit Libya, Tunisia and Iraq next September.

The agency indicated that there are ongoing contacts with the Government of National Unity to organize Borrell’s visit to Tripoli.

According to the agency, Borrell made it clear that the Afghanistan file is not the only one that worries Europe, pointing out that what he described as future crises in the Sahel region, West Africa and Iraq represent a great challenge.

He also noted that this matter may require sending military missions to protect European nationals and the external interests of the countries of the European Union even without US support.

Borrell pointed out that there is a force of 50.000 soldiers capable of acting in such conditions as Afghanistan today, supporting the idea of ​​establishing a European military force capable of fighting if necessary.
