Egyptian nationals died, others kidnapped while passing through Libyan waters

Egyptian media sources reported that a number of residents of the village of Talbana, in the Mansoura district, died and  a group of them had been kidnapped inside Libyan territorial waters.

The families stated that they had lost contact with their children, before they received news a few days later that a boat sank and 11 of its passengers died, while the rest of the 50 passengers were kidnapped, and their families were contacted by the kidnappers asking for a ransom, according to the Russia Today news website.

The people of Talbana called on the Egyptian authorities to intervene to reveal the fate of their sons, help free the kidnapped, and recover the bodies of those who died.

Libya is a transit point for many immigrants from Egypt and other African countries, in their quest to reach Europe and start a better life in light of the harsh economic and political conditions they live in their countries.
