UN Fact-Finding Mission in Libya to start work in October

The United Nations stated that the Fact-Finding Mission “FFM” on Libya will submit its report to the Human Rights Council, next October, after its first visit to Tripoli, which lasted four days during which it provided updated information to the Libyan authorities regarding its work.

The Head of the mission said that the aim of the visit was to strengthen cooperation with the Libyan authorities, stressing that the authorities had shown their cooperation and willingness to help.

A member of the fact-finding mission, Tracy Robinson, indicated that they are in a position to reach a number of important results, which they will present to the Human Rights Council in October, noting that identifying violations and abuses committed in Libya since 2016.

It is reported that many witnesses refused to deal with the mission, fearing for their safety; which prompted the mission to demand the Libyan authorities to guarantee the freedom of individuals, in order to cooperate with the mission.
