Libyan Foreign Minister asks for EU support through Greece

Libhan Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush called on the European Union to play an important role in monitoring the stability of Libya and assisting in peacekeeping mechanisms.

This came in a press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Nikos Dendias, in the Greek capital, Athens.

Al-Mangoush called on Greece to support Libya for the success of the electoral process, to achieve stability in Libya, which is stability for Greece, neighboring countries and the Mediterranean basin, as she described it.

She also renewed the call of the European Union, through Greece, to think seriously by developing the necessary plans to help and support Libya in facing the phenomenon of illegal immigration, noting that Libya, as a transit country, suffers from the consequences of this phenomenon, in light of the security and political challenges that it is going through.

She added that the support and assistance of the European Union to Libya in confronting this phenomenon would enhance regional and international cooperation.

In turn, the Greek minister indicated that his country was one of the first countries to open an embassy in Tripoli and a consulate in Benghazi, expressing his country’s desire to contribute to reconstruction and development projects, stressing his country’s support for the independence and sovereignty of Libya on its lands, and the holding of transparent elections on their scheduled date next December.

It is noteworthy that Greece has resumed its relations with Libya after the advent of the Government of National Unity, after it severed relations with Tripoli against the background of the rapprochement between the Sarraj government and Turkey.
