Russia denies hindering work of UN mission in Libya

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova denied allegations that Moscow obstructed the UN mission, indicating that her country consistently stresses the important role of the United Nations mission in pushing the Libyan settlement forward.

At a press conference in Moscow, Zakharova expressed her hope that all parties concerned with the Libyan crisis would reach a common understanding of the mission’s work in the next stage, and that this would be a common goal for all members of the UN Security Council.

It is noteworthy that sharp criticism by the United States was directed to Russia for its veto against the decision to extend the work of the UN mission in Libya for another year, as the Council was satisfied with extending the mission for one month, with Russia and China calling for amendments to its mechanism of work.
