Arab League, UN agree on need to hold elections in Libya in December

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, discussed with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, in New York City, on Monday, the developments that Arab countries are going through, including the crises in Libya, Syria and Yemen, in addition to the Palestinian issue and the challenges the Arab region is witnessing.

An official source in the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States stated that there is consensus between Aboul Gheit and Guterres on the importance of intensifying joint work between the League and the UN to urge all Libyan parties to abide by the upcoming elections on December 24 and the need to complete it successfully.

It is noteworthy that Aboul Gheit is participating in the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, along with leaders and foreign ministers of world countries, whose work will focus on discussing ways to enhance efforts to combat the Coronavirus pandemic and climate change.
