HoR statement after approving presidential and parliamentary elections laws

The Presidency of the House of Representatives called – on the occasion of what it considered “the completion of the dues necessary to conduct the elections” – all political and executive bodies to “fulfill the obligations placed upon them, just as the House of Representatives, as well as all politicians, to give precedence to the interest of the country and supremacy over any personal, partisan, regional, tribal or any other interests.”

The call came through the expanded statement it issued Monday and published on the official page of Parliament Spokesman Abdullah Belhaq, on Twitter. It also stated that (based on the responsibility entrusted to the House of Representatives to bring the country to safety and fulfill its obligation to establish the legal framework of the Constitutional Law and the issuance of the necessary legislation for the electoral entitlement on 24 December, it was necessary for the House of Representatives to keep pace with the desire of the Libyan sovereign people in their aspiration for presidential and parliamentary elections at the end of this year).

Regarding the parliament’s approval on Monday of the law on elections, the statement said that the House of Representatives, by issuing Law (1) for the year 2021 AD regarding the election of the country’s president and approving the Parliamentary Elections Law, puts the people before their responsibility and restores the trust to the Libyan people.

It indicated that the House of Representatives had thus “goed through a difficult period in the history of the nation, during which it was able to preserve its territorial integrity despite the great challenges and internal and external conspiracies” – according to the statement’s description.

The statement considered that the House of Representatives, by issuing the legislation and laws regulating the upcoming elections, has ended a stage (one of the most dangerous stages that has passed in the modern history of Libya, and after years of instability, wars and chaos, it is time for the Libyan people to enjoy a state of stability and end the transitional stages that exhausted the Libyans and reached the country to a critical stage).

The statement of the Presidency of the House of Representatives concluded by calling on all Libyans to make 24 December (an electoral ceremony by which the country enters the stage of stability, construction and reconciliation at all levels, political and social, so that everyone turns the pages of war and rivalry forever).
