German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to withdraw his forces and mercenaries affiliated with Turkey from the Libyan and Syrian territories.
Merkel’s call came, during a visit to Turkey, which began Saturday, stressing that the solution in Libya will not take place without the withdrawal of all foreign forces from the country.
This call comes at a time when Turkish military activity has recently increased in Libyan airspace, and the movement of Turkish Air Force aircraft is active in Libya, amid news of a regular air bridge being operated from Turkish bases to western Tripoli.
Turkey had previously announced the withdrawal of a number of its mercenaries a week ago, but observers are skeptical about these statements, and consider them a kind of procrastination until the Libyan elections.
