NGO: Libyan Coast Guard threatens German relief ship

A “Sea Watch 4” relief organization’s ship, carrying 120 illegal immigrants fleeing from Libya, was threatened with kidnapping by the Libyan Coast Guard in the Mediterranean, according to what was reported by the German news agency.

In the recordings published by aid workers last Friday morning on Twitter , it is heard that the ship should change its course, and despite the response that the ship is in international waters; a voice shouted, “Otherwise, we will take you back with us to Libya.. Is this clear?” before the situation finally calmed down.

It appeared in a video clip of a radio-wave dialogue published by the organization on Friday evening that a man used threatening phrases, as he was saying, “Stop your engine, this is the Libyan navy, we will shoot you,” while the organization called on Europe to stop cooperating with Libya in the Mediterranean.

The German agency stated that some migrants were recovered in a dramatic rescue operation, adding that the Libyan Coast Guard intercepted them and transferred them on board its ships, but they jumped again into the waters; in order to reach the rescue ship.
