5+5 JMC member urges UNSMIL to stop political disagreements in Libya

The member of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC), Lieutenant-General Maraje Al-Amami, called on the United Nations Support Mission in Libya and the international community; to exert more efforts to prevent the development of political differences.

Al-Amami ruled out, in a statement to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, that the JMC work was affected by any tensions, bearing in mind the holding of the presidential elections, defending the JMC impartiality towards the candidacy of any person in the presidential elections.

He also said Libyans will not engage in any armed conflict except in defense of the country, and the support of the Libyans and the international community for the JMC along with the strength of its members’ cohesion will prevent it from falling hostage to any interactions.

Al-Amami reaffirmed the JMC impartiality and interest in the country’s unity and security, and that they are alert to the danger of the current critical stage, stressing that the JMC will not be drawn into any attempts to ignite strife in the country.
