HNEC postpones publishing preliminary list of parliamentary candidates

The High National Elections Commission announced Monday the postponement of the publication of the lists of parliamentary elections’ candidates for a short period, given the total number of applications (5,385 candidates) that exceeded expectations.

The commission said in a statement the process of auditing and reviewing applications will take a longer period of time than planned.

It explained that it was obliged to postpone for a short period the process of announcing the preliminary lists of House of Representatives elections’ candidates.

The commission confirmed that it is working to review the process of delivering voter cards, and to carry out the process of matching the received and unreceived cards; in preparation for communicating with the receiving voters and ensuring that they actually received the cards.

In its statement, the Electoral Commission recalled that it stands impartial and not politically aligned with any of the parties with an interest in the success or postponement of the process awaiting 2.5 million voters, calling for intensified efforts to implement the will of Libyans and advance the interest of the country.
