During his meeting with the Adviser of the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libya, Stephanie Williams, the Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, stressed keenness to unify efforts to reach free, fair and transparent elections that meet the aspirations of Libyans towards stability.
The Presidential Council said on Facebook that the meeting that took place between Williams and Menfi on Monday morning in Tripoli, saw the latter confirm full support for the High National Elections Commission (HNEC).
The Head of the Presidential Council praised the efforts of the UN mission in Libya, stressing at the same time, the unification of the military and all other institutions, while Williams stressed the importance of adhering to the outcomes of political dialogue, holding elections, and achieving the aspirations of Libyans in building a unified and democratic state.
Williams also reaffirmed the need for more efforts to unify state institutions and achieve national reconciliation, in addition to supporting the initiatives of the “5+5” Joint Military Commission.
It is noteworthy that Stephanie Williams arrived in the capital, Tripoli, on Sunday, to work with the UN mission; wiith the aim of maintaining the momentum of the electoral process, following her appointment, on December 6, as Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libya.
It is expected that “Williams” will meet with various local actors to discuss developments in the political process.
