Williams says Libya elections should be held before end of June 2022

The Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libya, Stephanie Williams, said that the Libyan elections should be held urgently before the end of June of this year.

In an exclusive interview with CNN, Williams added that the only solution to the Libyan crisis is for Libyans to go to the polls and exercise their democratic right by holding elections as soon as possible, stressing that the final decision will be in the hands of Libyans themselves, and that the role of the United Nations is a supportive advisory role, without interference in the process of sorting candidates or the political process.

Williams indicated that the end of June is the date for the end of the political process included in the road map, after which the country is expected to enter a political vacuum, which requires serious work to hold elections before this date.
