Operation IRINI says it has conducted 6000 tasks since March 2020

The European Air and Naval Operation IRINI announced that since the start of its activities during the year 2020, its participating crews were able to carry out 6000 inspection missions.

IRINI stated that these inspections included ships and boats that were on their way to Libya.

The European Union launched Operation IRINI in March 2020, with the aim of implementing the Security Council resolution imposing an arms embargo on Libya.

Operation IRINI was authorized by the European Union with the aim of contributing to the implementation of the arms embargo imposed on Libya, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolutions 2292 (2016) and 2526 (2020).

In March 2021, the European Union extended the IRINI mandate to monitor the arms embargo on Libya until March 2023, in a decision praised by European officials, stressing that the operation works impartially and professionally to contribute to pushing for a solution to the Libyan crisis despite the difficulties facing it.
