Williams stresses independence of Libyan NOC, LIA and CBL

UN Adviser Stephanie Williams stressed that the independence and integrity of the National Oil Corporation, the Libyan Investment Authority and the Central Bank of Libya must be protected from political turmoil.

Williams said, in two tweets on Monday, that these sovereign institutions “primarily belong to the Libyan people and should not be subjected to arbitrary pressure.”

In her tweet, the Adviser said the use of these vital sectors and institutions shouldn’t be taken as a weapon for the benefit of one party or another, explaining the need for the transparent management and distribution of the wealth of the Libyan people to be a common goal.

It should be noted that the National Oil Corporation and the Central Bank of Libya have always entered into the political conflict and played them as cards in the negotiating tracks and in the peaceful and armed conflict alike, whether the oil fields and ports witnessed repeated closures and the widespread controversy regarding the Central Bank of Libya regarding the granting of credits and other matters, in addition to sovereign deposits abroad, regarding the Libyan Investment Authority.
