Brigades’ leaders from western Libya demand Bashagha and Dabaiba avoid armed conflict

The leaders of a number of armed battalions in the western region called on the heads of the Libyan government, Fathi Bashagha, and the unity government, Abdel Hamid Dabaiba, not to resort to armed conflict, and to keep political dialogue as a means to resolve the crisis.

The leaders added, in a statement, that they agreed with the two parties that the conflict would remain political, and pledged to the Libyans to hold them responsible for any bloodshed of Libyans. The statement also held the United Nations Support Mission in Libya responsible for what might happen if an armed conflict ensued.

According to the leaders; their statement came in appreciation of the seriousness of the situation and in the context of their efforts with other military leaders to open channels of communication among the parties to spare Libya, the western region and the capital, Tripoli, any conflict, saying that their efforts are an attempt to reach a solution that will destabilize Libya.

On Friday evening, Tripoli witnessed military movements amid reports of military convoys carrying heavy and medium weapons leaving several cities in the western region, heading towards the capital.
