Armed clashes in Al-Zawiya for second time in less than a month

Al-Zawiya city, which is located about 50 kilometers west of the capital Tripoli, witnessed armed clashes between the Stabilization Support Force led by Abu Zaribah and the criminal investigation apparatus led by Al-Far. The clashes  caused some injuries to the two conflicting parties’ fighters, as well as material damage to some cars.

The armed clashes took place in the Al-Arawi area, and they began in the late hours of Thursday morning, amid fears of rapid development after the arrival of reinforcement to the conflicting parties.

Less than a month ago, the city of Al-Zawiya witnessed armed clashes between members of the Refinery Protection Brigade and others from the Al-Shurafa Brigade, which led to deaths and injuries on both sides, as well as damage to 29 sites in Al-Zawiya Refinery, including oil derivatives’ tanks.

The last clashes in the city led to a strong condemnation by the Libyan government, as Interior Minister Issam Abu Zuraiba considered it absolutely unacceptable for the “brothers to fight to impose people’s interests and tighten their control”, while the head of the unity government, Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba, stressed the need to arrest those responsible for this chaos.
