Source to 218News: Al-Mashri visits Cairo before kickoff of Libyan Constitutional Committee talks

A source told 218News that the Head of the High Council of State (HCS), Khaled Al-Mashri, arrived on Saturday in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on a visit during which he met Egyptian officials.

Al-Mashri’s visit to Cairo came a few days before the start of the second round of consultations by the joint committee formed by the House of Representatives and the HCS, regarding consensus on the constitutional basis and amending electoral laws. The new talks round is scheduled to be held on May 15 in the Egyptian capital under the auspices of the UN.

Al-Mashri met the UN advisor Stephanie Williams a few days ago in Tripoli to discuss breaking the political deadlock and pushing the political process amid the escalating division in the country, and the failure of the Constitutional Track Committee to achieve positive results with the conclusion of its first 6-day talks.
