Rifawi still behind bars for the 44th consecutive day

The detention of the correspondent of 218 TV in Sirte continues for the forty-fourth day in a row. The correspondent, Ali Rifawi was arrested on 26 March without revealing any details about his fate.

A number of international and local organizations demanded the immediate release of Rifawi, adding that his arrest came without any legal justification, which they said was a practice of the policy of “silencing voices”.

Libya is one of the most prominent countries that are witnessing serious violations against journalists, and its ranking of 165 globally in the Press Freedom Index prepared by Reporters Without Borders is an indication of the worst position the country has ever known.

The local governmental, security and military authorities in the city of Sirte still refuse to respond to all the demands, the statement of the management of 218 channels and the appeals of the Rifawi family to release him.
