US ambassador reiterates importance of controlling Libya’s borders

The US ambassador to Libya Richard Norland said that maintaining and controlling national borders against smugglers, human traffickers, and potential terrorists was a vital function of any country.

These remarks came during Norland’s meeting with 20 Libyan customs, passports and counter-terrorism units’ officers who participated in a training workshop on combating smuggling, hosted by the Tunisian capital within the embassy’s export control and border security program.

During the meeting, the US ambassador said the US was pleased to assist Libya in developing its border security capabilities.
