Italian envoy to Libya reiterates Rome’s support for constitutional talks in Cairo

The Italian Special Envoy to Libya, Nicola Orlando, affirmed his country’s support for the Cairo meetings between members of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, to find a legal framework for organizing free and transparent national elections whose results are accepted by all and that lead the country to a stage of stability, peace and construction.

This came during a meeting between Orlando, accompanied by the Italian ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino, and deputy head of the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, on Sunday, to discuss developments in the political scene in Libya, where the latter praised Italy’s role in supporting the political track in Libya, and its efforts to reach consensus among all parties.

The Italian envoy stressed the importance of continuing the political track in Libya to hold presidential and parliamentary elections based on  a constitutional framework agreed upon by all parties involved in the political process.
