A52 well’s production of crude oil rises thanks to Schlumberger Coiled Tubing technique

The Mellitah Oil & Gas Co raised the production of A52 well at Wafa Field after 4-month hiatus by applying the Schlumberger Coiled Tubing Velocity String technique.

The company’s Reservoir Engineering Department applied the Schlumberger Coiled Tubing Velocity String technique to the A52 well at Wafa Field in the cooperation with Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC)’s Reserve Development Department.

The field is located at about 540 kilometers southwest of Tripoli and about 160 kilometers south of the city of Ghadames.

Production was successfully restored at the well after it had been closed since July 2017 due to continuous low wellhead pressure, preventing the flow of crude oil.

NOC said this technique could previously rehabilitate two oil wells: A20 well in 2017 with a production 2600 barrels per day and A52 well on Feb. 1, 2018, with a production 1200 barrels per day.

NOC also revealed that the Mellitah Oil & Gas is conducting studies on several other wells in hopes that it will replicate this technique following the success at the Wafa field.

NOC announced on Saturday that Libyan oil revenues decreased in August to about $1.57 billion, a decline of $455 million compared to July.

According to NOC, Libyan oil fields faced difficult security conditions, such as declaring the force majeure on crude oil loadings at the Gulf of Sirte ports, which affected exportation rates.

The corporation expects revenues to recover and achieve the production targets in the coming months, benefiting from the recent climb in sales. The NOC added that its total revenue reached $15.2 billion during the first eight months of this year.

Earlier this month, chairman and f NOC Mustafa Sanalla announced that Libya’s current oil production exceeded 1 million bpd despite local security challenges. He added that BP and Eni plan to restart their exploratory drilling operations at a field near the Libyan border with Tunisia in the first quarter of next year.

The NOC is also negotiating with several international oil companies with the aim to increase investment and production in Libya’s oil industry, if security across the country improved.
