Benghazi Institute of Petroleum Technology to be constructed to train oil sector staff

The Institute of Petroleum Technology will be constructed in Benghazi, eastern Libya, upon a Saturday decree by Chairperson of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) Mustafa Sanalla.

Sanalla said the project’s timeline and capacities will be set according to the budget.

He requested the teamwork to submit periodic reports to NOC on the construction and the measures taken to select the trainees per the oil sector’s requirements.

On Oct. 24, Libya held an oil conference entitled “Benghazi Oil and Gas Exhibition and Forum,” which is the first international business conference in Libya’s second-largest city, Benghazi, since 2014 when it turned into a battlefield.

“Benghazi city will play a prominent and important role for the oil and gas sector in the region and probably the world,” the NOC chairman said during the conference.

He added that he was working on improving the performance of oil workers, pointing out that Benghazi would host a staff training institute.

Sanalla further remarked that Libya’s future is largely dependent on the oil and gas sector revenues.

He stressed the importance of transparency to ensure the fair distribution of oil revenues across the country.

In July 2017, forces of General Commander of Libyan National Army Khalifa Haftar declared victory over the Islamic State (IS), ending four years of war that destroyed the city.
