Libyan Airlines denies reversing prices of flight tickets

Director of the Media Office at the Libyan Airlines Mohamed Kenwa denied on Sunday media reports that claimed the company has reversed its decision to increase flight ticket prices.

This issue has stirred up controversy among Libyans in the past few days as some statements were released to justify the decision made by Libyan Airlines and Afriqiyah Airways to raise their ticket prices, while others claimed the company revoked the decision.

The rumors may indicate disagreements between the two boards of directors of the Libyan Airlines in Tripoli and Benghazi, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Libyan African Aviation Holding Company declared on Saturday that the decision made by Libyan Airlines and Afriqiyah Airways is considered “hasty and not economically evaluated.”

The holding company called on the two companies to reverse their decision to raise the ticket prices and fully study it with the concerned entities and the Libyan Central Bank. However, both companies upheld their decisions to increase the prices.

Both Libyan Airlines and Afriqiyah Airways have decided to increase their flight ticket prices threefold starting from December, according to a Wednesday statement.

The Libyan Airlines said in its statement the decision will include all domestic and external flights.

Kenwa, the Director of Media Office in Libyan Airline, told 218News that the company has decided to increase the price of its flight tickets due to the recent change in the official exchange rate.

The company explained to its customers that if they used their tickets before the date of implementation of the decision, they will not pay the difference in ticket price.
