44 kg of hash seized in Tripoli

The Anti-Narcotics Department in Abu Salim, Tripoli arrested three drug dealers and seized 44 kilograms of hash on Monday.

According to the Ministry of Interior’s Facebook page, investigations led to the arrest of the drug dealers, believed to be part of a larger narcotics gang that smuggles drugs into Libya with the intent of distributing in different cities.

Investigators said the seized drugs were set to be distributed in the cities of Sabha, Bani Walid, Zawiya, and Tripoli, adding that the suspects will be referred to the prosecution after investigation.

Crimes of drugs have mounted since 2011 owing to the security vacuum in the country, as there is no unified system that can deter the smuggling of such substances into Libya.

Hash mainly comes into Libya via the smuggling routes in the south and east with much of it coming from Egypt.
