IS posts pictures believed to be of Tazirbu hostages

Pictures have circulated on social media in the past few days, showing around 10 people held hostages by the Islamic State group after their abduction from Tazirbi town Nov. 23.

The pictures show the hostages put their hands on their heads, squatting on the floor while looking at the wall of a school. As some activists on social media have suggested, this scene reflects that the hostages have been been killed.

However, it has not been confirmed whether these pictures are related to the abductees from Tazirbu city, located in central Libya.

Meanwhile, Minister of Interior of the Libyan east-based Interim Government Ibrahim Bushnaf said on Friday that some IS militants who attacked Tazirbu sneaked into the town in military uniform, riding camouflaged vehicles.

Bushnaf warned of the new deceptive tactics used by militants to carry out attacks on the army and civilians.

On Nov. 23, IS attacked a security directorate in the southeastern Libyan town Tazirbu, killing nine security service members, injuring 10 and kidnapping a number of residents.

This is not the first time IS has attacked a Libyan town and abducted its residents. Suspected IS militants attacked on Oct. 29 al-Fuqaha town in central Libya, killing four people, kidnapping others and torching a police station. Thus far, no details have been announced about these hostages.
